Nursery Staff

Alongside the managers and assistant manager, there is a full staff team within the nursery.

Most staff have been fully trained in Pediatric First Aid and have also achieved a minimum of Level 3 NVQ in Childcare. All staff have Safeguarding, Safer Food for Better Business training, food hygiene and Health and Safety. They hold relevant qualifications and receive on-going training in these. Other qualifications include: NCFE Level 2 in Equality & Diversity; Learning Disabilities; Autism Awareness; Infection Control; COSHH; and Moving & Handling.

Alex (BA Hons, PGCE)

Owner/ Manager of 1st Steps Day Nursery since it opened in 2003. I have over 25 years of childcare experience ranging from nursery nursing, teaching, school governing and managing nurseries. I am fully active in the day-to-day running of the business and actively participate in local government initiatives such as the 2 year old offer and the integrated review. I am the nursery Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and work closely with colleagues and families to support all of our children. I also support Bev as Designated Safeguarding Officer within the nursery. Both myself and Bev work together in providing up to date and relevant in-house training to ensure we have a fully knowledgeable team.

Bev (BA Hons)

Owner/ Manager of 1st Steps Day Nursery since 2006. My career in childcare started out in our first family business where I qualified with an NVQ 3 back in 1993. Managerial experience came from day one working within the family business . I went onto University gaining a degree in Psychology and Health Studies then backpacked around Australia. This lead to a position in corporate travel and travelling the world. I moved back to Liverpool in 2006 as a business partner to Alex. I'm also fully active in the day to day running of the business and take the lead as Designated Safeguarding Officer and family worker within the nursery, working closely with Alex and the senior team to ensure children and families are supported within the setting.

Christina - Deputy

Deputy and Room leader starting out with my apprenticeship back in 2003. Now qualified with an NVQ 3 in childcare, I am the staff representative and support Bev with Health and Safety across the nursery. With a military background and managerial experience in a large retail outlet, I have great pleasure working with all parents and children and welcoming them into nursery every day.

Claire - Deputy

Deputy and Room leader starting work originally at 1st Steps nearly 19 years ago. I have worked my way from an apprentice, nursery nurse, room leader to Deputy with the support of Alex & Bev. I’ve worked in all age groups and lead on the SSTEW project across the nursery which looks at Sustained Shared Thinking and Emotional Wellbeing.

Richard - Deputy

Deputy and Room leader. I started working here in 2018 after many years of working in childcare in other nurseries and After school provisions. I’ve worked in all age groups and can often be found elbow deep in messy play along with the children. I lead Well-being within the nursery and am happy to support wherever needed.
