About the Nursery

We care for up to 80 children aged from 6 weeks to 8 years. We are open weekdays from 07.30 to 18.00, all year round except bank holidays. All food and nappies are included in the price!

Our nursery is large and spacious with 6 separate rooms split over 2 levels solely for children’s everyday use. We have a sensory room and multimedia/library room which we use to encourage and nurture senses and improve speech and language development through lessons such as French and Music. Children in the older rooms also have PE lessons during the week.

Our outdoor space is divided into 3 safely enclosed play areas. We have an all-weather rubber area which is soft and spongy for general play. We also have a concrete road play area for road safety and transport activities, and finally, we have a garden. There is a grassed area with play house, raised flower beds for growing plants and vegetables, a decking area for relaxing, and a bridge and tyres for the children to play with. Each year the children develop the garden by planting and growing herbs and vegetables which we then harvest and use in play activities and cooking.

We have storage facilities for your prams in our pram store along with car seats. We do ask that you fold down your prams so that others can also access the store.

Meals are prepared by the cook onsite. We provide at least 5 fruit and vegetables per day in line with nutrition guidelines. The children are involved with planning the menus and choose their own meal every Friday. We will do our utmost to cater for any diet but on occasions we may not be able to purchase specialist ingredients, therefore, we may ask you to provide it. Breakfast is served at 8.30, snack at 10.00, lunch at 11.30am, tea at 2.45pm and a final snack at 4.00pm. Menus are displayed in the nursery for you to peruse.

We strive to encourage every aspect of your child’s development. Here at 1st Steps, we have 6 different rooms with different aged children in each.

Room 1: aged 0–12 months
Room 2: aged 12–18 months
Room 3: aged 18–24 months
Room 4: aged 24–30 months
Room 5: aged 30–36 months+
Room 6: aged 36 months+

Ages are approximate as every child is different, therefore, children are moved around the nursery according to ability. Staff and parents work together to ensure the children are in the right environment with the right equipment and toys to meet their needs.
